It’s just starting to get to be winter here — the lake’s frozen over — but it’s a good day to get in a hike before the storm rolls in tomorrow. Watch the video here.

The Obstacles Phase of the EVOKE Process

Hi, today I am at Goat Lake in Idaho in the Pioneer Mountains and right back there is Standhope Peak — that’s my obstacle for the day. We’re heading up there next.

I’m going to talk to you today about the obstacles phase of the EVOKE process. So now that you’ve got a vision, really, and you’re in touch with what it would feel like to be where you want to be — to be doing what you want to do and how that would feel — now we need to take a minute to take a look at the obstacles that may stand in your way.

Why Planning for Obstacles Matters in Financial Goals

Often we get fired up about doing things and we get excited, and then we never get around to doing them. Often it’s because something gets in our way and we lose that feeling — lose the emotion around it — and we lose engagement with it.

What we want to do is plan ahead for that. We want to look at what might stand in the way of you obtaining the things that you want to obtain or do right now that would make your life meaningful right now.

Identifying and Addressing Barriers

We’ll look at what that might be, and then what you can do about it, and who could help you, and when you can do it — when you can address that obstacle that’s standing in your way.

Now we know that there’s going to be some things that are out of your control, but we’ll accept that and try to put those aside, and then just ask: What can you control? What is it that you can do to move forward towards your goals?

We’ll walk away from this meeting with a plan — with a plan for how to deal with what’s currently in your way or with whatever may come up so that we can move forward and actually put things in action.
